Beach!

Friday, June 10, 2011

Okay...so I've kinda lied...this is the start of the little hill that has started to form...from my 'mountain of updates...' but...TODAY WE'RE GOING TO THE BEACH!!!

Its finally a real field trip (and on a nice day as well)! Lets hope it doesn't rain while we're there!!! :D That would be annoying (it always rains on our field trips...) :\

Either way, I can't wait! I'll post again today to tell you guys how it went!

(P.S. yes I just did wake up at 5:50 to post this :D Hooray for early birds~!)

HI!

Friday, May 27, 2011

Hi! Toads Rockz Here! I'm back and with a template change! (The snow ended a while ago...well at least in this state!)

I've changed it to an anime theme...but just because it kinda had a summery theme to it! :D

But just because school is coming to its close doesn't mean that I'm going to slack off again!

Prepare for a mountain of updates!

Toads Rockz Out!!! :D

3D? or NO D! Haha! Get it?

Sunday, March 6, 2011

As you can all see, 3D IS THE BIG THING! I mean, even my dad just went out and bought a 3D TV (60 inches but who's couting?) But 3D is not all as it seems.

With Nintendo coming out with the revelutionary Nintendo 3DS (with its two cameras, camcorder that can record 3D vidoes, movie watching capabilities and more) it seems too good to be true right?

WRONG! With a capital W!

Nintendo's newest hand held, the Nintendo 3DS has been 'seen' (haha another pun!) to cause eye problems when children that are 7 years old or younger, use the 3D feature. This problem can be easily fixed by using the parental controls to turn off the 3D feature though...

Wizard of Oz!

Wow!  For the past 4 days, we have been performing non-stop!  My school had put on a play about the Wizard of Oz!  I wasn't a main character but it was still a great experience!  I just wish that I would have tried out for other plays before...To all of the sixth graders that are reading my blog (and if your reading my blog then go on the Question Box) I suggest that you always try out for the most things that you can try out for!  Who knows?  You might enjoy it!

At first when I went to the first couple of rehearsals for the Wizard of Oz, I thought that everything was just a big mess and that it was never going to become a good play, but as I went to more practices, I saw the play take shape, and it was really exciting!

So follow the yellow brick road, all the way down to Pippin's Question Box!

Global Warming Strikes Again!

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Okay, first there is a mountain load of snow that doesn't melt for two months...and then we have a three day streak of warm weather...and just as I was about to give my props to the groundhog for predicting the weather correctly...IT SNOWS!  Well it wasn't even a lot...and it all melted by 12...but still, SNOW IS SNOW!  And it snowed!  Which totally proves that Global Warming means extreme temperatures, not that its hot all of the time!  This is a perfect example!  So, take that Dad who said that Global Warming is when everything heats up!  Ha!

NDD?

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

I just thought of this...but if everything is considered as science...then wouldn't that mean that going outside would be considered as science? Which would mean that going on a field trip would be considered as science as well right? That would be a good excuse to have a field trip wouldn't it?

You might wonder why I am bringing this up, but its because we were reading a very interesting article in Kokopelli1015's class today! It was talking about Nature-Deficit Disorder. To sum it up, it was basically talking about how our generation (Generation X) is being seperated from nature and we aren't learning the life lessons that we would normally learn from nature. Instead, we spend more of our time inside. And quoting from the article "We have more chance of developing emotional, and physical diseases." That includes...EVERYTHING! Colds, bruises, even headaches!

You might think that, "Oh, but today I played outside!" well that doesn't count. In this article, it says in order for us to really reconnect with nature, we need to go on more nature hikes, and experiance the science/nature that is around us, instead of reading about it in books! Now wouldn't that be a good excues to go on a field trip to the beach, sometimes *hint hint* to learn about waves and physics *hint hint*?!

Ski Club was a Blast!

Friday, February 11, 2011

On Thursday it was the last day of Ski Club!  Ski Club was so much fun...while it lasted!  Since it was our last trip of the season we were allowed to have dinner in the Ski Lounge for FREE!  I ordered a chicken sandwich, a side of fries and my special drink (Lemonade with Sprite).  Most of the time I spent at Shawnee was skiing with Njguy320!  Even though it was freezing, and I had two left handed gloves (I had lost one pair of them on a later ski trip) it was still worth it!

We didn't get back until 11:00 which was earlier than usual, but I didn't mind, that meant that I had more time to get prepared for the day that I was going to have today!  A lady by the name of Stephanie came from the Philadelphia Zoo to talk to us about classification!  She even brought animals with her (a ferret, a hawk, an armadillo, and a lizard)!

Anyway, back to Ski Club...even though I only stayed on the bunny hill, I still had a blast!  All of the instructors were good humored and I even got a bumblebee pin from one of the teachers!  We took a lot of pictures and videos!

I recommend anyone who loves the snow to sign up for Ski Club next year!  Too bad they don't have it at the high school...:P

Super Bowl...Ugh...

Sunday, February 6, 2011

Today is the Super Bowl!  Yay...? For the entire past week, all I've heard is "Steelers are going to OWN the Packers!" or "Go CHEESE HEADS!" and "Black and Gold for the win!"  But sometimes I wonder...who cares?  All the Super Bowl is, is an opportunity for companies to get millions of viewers to potentially buy their products!  Half of the people that watch the Super Bowl don't even know two cents about football (not that I know anything about football, but that's not the point)!  And its another way to get people lazing around the TV for about two hours, when they could be doing something a lot more productive!  Besides, who cares about a bunch of sweaty men running into people so they can potentially paralyze themselves and be stuck in a wheel chair for the rest of their lives?!  The most annoying thing about the super bowl is the fact that everyone has parties, which are so loud, that you can't focus if you're trying to study for a test that you have the next day, or if you have to clean up the entire house for that party and you don't even get to participate in said party!

Now, if I could only get away from the TV to start my homework, 14-0  COME ON PEOPLE!  BASH THEIR HEADS IN!!!!!

Worms, Worms and More Worms!

Friday, February 4, 2011

So, I think that everyone knows, that we have started dissections in science class, right? And I think that its very interesting (now some of you might get squeamish around worms and frogs but I find it fascinating!) so I've decided to post a few facts about what I noticed when examining our worm for the external exam part of the lab.

1.) These worms look like paper.

No seriously they looked fake! As soon as we got them I noticed that they were very long and they bent so they looked like paper! They weren't very slimy, even thought they were sitting in a bucket of preservative for, who knows long, so I also found that to be cool as well.

2.) Worms don't have eyes.

They don't. Apparently worms use their sensory nerves to feel what is around them. I found that to be weird at first but then I came to accept it once I found no place for eyes to exist on a worm. After all they can grow some parts of their body if it ever broke off, so what would happen if the section with the eyes was broken off? Then they would be blind! But that's just me ranting, XD

3.) Worms are pink.

Now I found this one to be surprising as well, since the first time I looked at a worm, I saw that it was a darkish brown, almost black color. Worms are normally covered in dirt and or mucus, so I can guess why they won't look pink at first but once I completed the internal exam, it becames really obvious.

4.) Worms don't have genders.

Yes, you read that right. They carry both the female and male reproductive systems in their bodies...which is kind of creepy but convenient for their species! This means that they don't have to exert extra energy to go and find a mate when they could be using that energy to run away from predators!

5.) Worms have whiskers

Not the whiskers that you see on cats and dogs! Apparently, worms have small whisker-like hairs on its skin called setae (they can be found by rubbing the worm's stomach a certain way) and it helps them to move; because they don't have any legs to move with, they crawl and without the setae on their bodies to provide traction, they would just squirm in place.

Those are just a couple of facts that I found to be interesting! If you had some other facts that you thought were interesting, you can always talk about them in the comments section of this post!

Thanks! ;3

The Snow Has Taketh Over!

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Wow~ I asked for snow, and now look what we have! Over 30 inches and more to come! This is amazing! Too bad I have to shovel all of it...that's not fun. I bet that I'll throw out my back by the end of the season. :P

But on a better note...This day starts our dissecting lab! Yay! Today we didn't do much but an external exam of Earthworms which is what we will start to dissect before we move onto the cooler subjects such as frogs! Yay! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, though my hands did get all tingly and dry after the examination, but SunnyD said that it was fine...but now I'm babbling aren't I?

One of my New Year's Resolutions is to start posting on my blog more often...and to beat Pippin in her contest! I'm going to try hard to post at least once every two days, so check my blog often!

It has snowed! Yay! It's not a lot but right now it is snowing! Yay! Guess that old pajamas inside out trick actually works! And while its only a small amount, snow is snow!

There Might be a Chance Yet!

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

First off, I would just like to say...Happy Early Thanksgiving! Yay! Now, onto the snow news...

It's going to rain on Thursday and Friday. The showers are going to be in the afternoon towards the evening...and even though the highs are in the 40's and 50's the lows are in the 20's and 30's, so there might, just might be a chance of snow(since snow forms at 32 degrees and lower)!

Come on everybody! Let's wear our pajama's inside out and hope for it to snow snow snow!!!

Thanks,

Toad Rockz XD

No Snow! ...for now...

Monday, November 15, 2010

<- A picture of Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Toad...who's buried in the snow...poor Toad..though I would like it to snow like that over here!

4 to 8 inches of snow in Colorado...1 to 4 inches of snow in Wyoming...even 1 to 4 inches of snow in Arizona; and that's in the middle of a desert! So...no Snow...for now...

Hopefully, the snow over in the west coast will blow over to the east coast...so if you hear anything else about the snow, feel free to leave a comment,

Thanks

Toads Rockz ;D

Snow, anyone?

Monday, November 8, 2010

Hi guys! Is it just me or do you guys have a feeling that it's going to snow soon?

I hope it just isn't me though, I'd for love it to snow! Speaking of snow...that reminds me of percipitaion and clouds! Which reminds me of science! Yay for science! Anyway, I will be posting about snow updates...for now, so if you hear anything, feel free to leave a comment!

Thanks,

(this did you know was special because its the day that Twilight: Eclipse comes out!)

The Coolest Blog Ever!

Friday, June 25, 2010

I don't know if we are allowed to post over the summer...its science related...so I'LL DO IT!

On the travel channel there is this new TV show called Bert the Conqueror (its hilarious, you should watch it!) Anywho, this guy is a thrill-seeker to put it basically! He does ridiculous challenges (like the human slingshot, which has a lot to do with physics) and rides extreme roller coasters, (exposing himself to multiple G forces) I just thought that this show was totally awesome (and science related too) and I wanted to post about it!

To see a slide show of pictures from his many adventures click:

here for Cedar Point
and click...
here for Utah and the Human Slingshot.

I hope you guys have a chance to watch the show! Its on the Travel Channel Wednesdays at 10:00 pm!
